Such is the pace of technological change these days that now we have a 3D intra-oral scanner at ARK Dental Practice that allows us to scan your teeth in a few minutes and show you what is happening in your mouth. Not only can you see what the dentist sees but it is easier to understand what treatment may be needed and we have a model that we can refer to in future and see if teeth are wearing down, moving position or if the gums are receding. All of this can be measured in 10s of microns accuracy, something that has been very difficult to do with conventional analogue techniques.
Many people dislike having impressions (moulds) taken of their teeth for orthodontics, crown and bridge work, dentures and whitening trays. With our intra-oral scanner we have virtually eliminated the need for analogue impressions and it is much more comfortable, cleaner and less wasteful of materials to be able to scan your mouth digitally. Also work is sent electronically to the laboratory saving time and ensuring a quicker result.
